As part of our cultural preparation for the upcoming trip to Japan, students from The Basel School participated in the Konomi Festival—Basel’s decentralized celebration of Japanese taste and aesthetics.
One highlight was attending the vernissage of Swiss artist Kaspar Schumacher, whose work explores themes of impermanence and transformation, resonating deeply with Japanese artistic traditions.
Speaking with Kaspar provided students with firsthand insight into contemporary art’s intersection with cultural heritage, enriching their understanding of Japanese aesthetics and their application in modern contexts.
