Our undergraduate students put their project management skills to the test this holiday season, organizing a heartwarming “Photo with Santa” event at Mathishof. As part of their Project Management class, they handled everything—from planning and shopping to decorating the farm, setting up the shoot, and even printing photos on the spot. To add to the festive atmosphere, they served GlĂĽhwein and hot chocolate to visitors, with all donations going to the Stiftung fĂĽr Krebskranke Kinder (Foundation for Children with Cancer) here in Basel.
In true holiday spirit, the students took their advertising efforts to the streets, dressing as elves and distributing flyers near tram stops across the city. Despite facing some bad weather on Saturday, they didn’t let it dampen their plans—instead, they decided to expand the event and host another day on Sunday, ensuring even more families could come and enjoy the experience.
This event wasn’t just about bringing joy to families; it was a real-world lesson in project management for our students. From shopping for supplies to coordinating logistics and adjusting plans when things didn’t go perfectly, they demonstrated exactly the kind of adaptability and teamwork that future business leaders need. Through our Practical Experiential Learning ™ model, they turned this project into a successful community event that raised money for a meaningful cause and brought smiles to children and parents alike.
We’re incredibly proud of how our students took charge of this project and turned it into a wonderful community event that spread holiday cheer and supported a great cause. It’s these kinds of practical experiences that help our students grow both as professionals and as individuals.
